The Construction Grind
Whoever said ‘patience is bitter but its fruit is sweet’ knew what they were talking about! To say the construction of the Bakehouse has been a lesson in patience would not adequately describe the process. The construction of the Bakehouse has actually been many things! I can honestly say, despite the engineering delays, the crazy unexpected things (like finding century old objects below your street corner), and even being delayed due to a worldwide pandemic, the process hasn’t been that bad. In fact, on the positive side, we’ve learned a ton about the construction process and have met so many wonderful people who have been a part of building our business. Most importantly, the delays have helped us fine-tune our concept and become singularly focused on creating something truly unique to downtown Franklin.
So back to the ‘patience is bitter’ part. Let me be the first to let the cat out of the bag…I am not a patient person. In fact, my lack of patience has led to disastrous decisions in my life. However, I can also attest to the fact that my lack of patience has also been a real blessing in some cases... For instance, who has time to wait around for something to happen? Not me! If I would have waited for Bill to ask me out then we probably wouldn’t be married right now! Unfortunately, waiting around in this case has been all we’ve been able to do. Having absolutely no control in a situation is tough. It may even make you a little bitter. But just like the ‘its fruit is sweet’ part, the wait has been well worth it as you are soon to find out.
Today we received news that we are just a few weeks from getting into the Bakehouse. Cabinetry, tile, floor work, and final electrical requirements are underway thus paving the way for our equipment delivery! And with equipment like ovens and refrigerators... well you know what that means! Couple the equipment delivery with the last few details in our space plus the work that we’ll need to do with our staff to prepare for you, we should be ready to welcome our customers sometime near the end of August!
Let me share a little bit about our aesthetics with you. Thanks to a designer extraordinaire and dear friend, the Bakehouse will be a beautiful place to visit. A French industrial inspired space with a combination of finishes, it will likely feel different than most of what you might see on Main Street. We will have a variety of seating options for dining both inside and outside. Or, if you prefer, you can grab and go!
Next time you’re on Main Street or visiting the Harpeth Hotel, do yourself a favor and walk down to the corner of Main and 1st and take a peek. Lots of changes are happening day to day and before you know it you’ll be stopping buy for a fresh loaf of sourdough or dinner, wine, and dessert to go! Whatever it is that brings you in to the Bakehouse, please stay a while and take in the beauty of our space and the inviting smells coming from our kitchen. We are so excited to meet and serve you. See you soon!
